One of EA's biggest franchises has to be the highly popular shooter Battlefield, and it has been sinceBattlefield Hardline that we saw the last iteration in the series. This coming October, Battlefield will return with a brand-new World War I setting, and it looks to be featuring some of the most over-the-top, intense gameplay you've seen yet.
Examiner.com recently had the chance to go hands-on with a PC build of Battlefield 1, and the multiplayer experience is shaping up to be as exciting as you may have been hoping for. The build was a version of the game from the Closed Alpha that seems to be upcoming for Battlefield 1, and the game is looking extremely good.
During my time with the game, I was able to check out the St. Quentin Scar map, which featured wide-open spaces, and a small village toward the middle of it. Conquest was the mode that we played for nearly a half hour before switching to another mode.
The village in the game, as well as other parts of the environment proved to be quite destructible, like you would expect from a Battlefield game, and the map catered well to wide-open action. Through my time with Conquest, we were able to claim aircrafts, which could then be flown around the map.
In addition to airplanes, gamers could also commandeer tanks and other ground vehicles that provided assault attacks and protection from infantry gun fire. St. Quentin Scar presented a nice balance of rolling hills and flat ground, which established important verticality from start to finish.
There were several weapons we were able to use during the session and those included guns like an assault rifle as well as a sniper rifle. I used the sniper for most of my time and it was one of the most rewarding and satisfying weapons of the lot.
The combination of differing verticality and the massive size of the map both contributed to the unpredictable gameplay found in St. Quentin Scar. Whether you were playing as someone who perched up on a hill for sniping duties, or you were a running and gunning, the balance was there and no one gameplay type seemed to be favored one way or the other.
Being able to spawn into a vehicle or aircraft that one of your teammates had under control provided an incredible way for players to jump into the war quite fast after a death. There wasn't any real dull moments to gameplay, and the map seemed to help create a good pace of play.
From the brief time I had with Battlefield 1's early gameplay, it's clear that this Fall's shooter will hold some of the most intense and fast-paced action. Battlefield 1 will be released on Oct. 21 for PS4, Xbox One and PC, but stay tuned for more news regarding the upcoming game.
